SuZie Abajian’s Excessive Time Off… and Then Some

This week the results of a Public Record Request (PRR) requesting Glendale City Clerk, Suzie Abajian’s, total time off was released. It request a collection of ALL time off for ALL reasons, holidays, sick leave, vacation time, personal time off, etc.

Unfortunately, the report response received included only the days off and the hours missed, paid for by taxpayer in the form of SuZie Abajian’s salary (which she has complained is too small). The report failed to identify the reasons given for each absence. Several citizens have tried to decipher the information, reviewing the city’s calendar to differentiate the reasons for the excessive time off. Even after accounting for holidays, the results reveal that Abajian has what appears to be an aversion to work, and a trend of increasing number of days off for each year she has been in office.

It should be noted that Abajian, like many city employees, works on a “9/80 schedule.” This means that she works (or is supposed to) nine hours Monday thru Thursday, and eight hours on alternating Fridays, with every other Friday off. It also means that every other Friday Glendale does not have their elected City Clerk on duty.

Wasting taxpayer money throughout the calendar

I had some fun with this PRR and made the accompanying music video to put some levity into the subject of our wasted tax dollars. It contains the data received in the PRR as well as a review of problems we have seen in the City Clerk’s performance since electing her. The video may be lighthearted, but the problems it highlights should be taken very seriously.

SuZie Abajian is up for reelection on June 2, 2026. In consideration of the problematic and divisive behavior we’ve come to expect from her, I will be casting my vote for a new city clerk. Susan Wolfson, a very qualified and non-partisan woman has stepped up to challenge Abajian in this race. And I can confidently recommend Wolfson for her meticulous attention to detail and for her respect for the public and the office she is running for.

Best of luck to Susan Wolfson.

Btw, if you think the accompanying song should be included as a bonus single with the upcoming imaginary reissue of “Dan Brotman’s Greatest Hits” please let us know in the comment section.
