After a poor performance at Thursday’s Northwest Glendale Homeowners Association City Council Candidate Forum, an angry Dan Brotman lashed out at his candidate competition with a string of name calling.
Brotman, who praised identity politics in his “No Kings” rally speech, failed to see the irony as he belittled a woman candidate, Beth Brooks. Brotman took the bully shot of calling Brooks “crazy pants Beth Brooks,” attempting to insult her attire and her intellect. (Don’t hold your breath waiting for Brotman’s slate mate and so-called “women’s advocate,” Elen Asatryan, to come to Brooks’ defense.)

Brotman also used the anti-Trump event to to slap labels on Patrick Murphy and Dr. Alex Balekian, attempting to stir voter emotions by associating these candidates with the federal administration. Brotman called Patrick Murphy “MAGA Murphy,” highlighting Brotman’s divisiveness and fearmongering as well as his willingness to mischaracterize his competitors to win an election. In reality, only Brotman would build a Trump-like tower in every Glendale neighborhood to satisfy his desires for high-density. In contrast, Murphy advocates for appropriately placed and sized development while preserving Glendale neighborhoods.
But Brotman really ‘jumped the shark’ when he called Dr. Alex Balekian, “Dr. Alex Oz.” This appeared to be an attempt to dissuade Armenian voters from voting for Balekian (himself an Armenian) by creating divisiveness within a community of which Brotman is not a part. Weeks earlier, Balekian stated that he wanted to remove fraud organizations from the Armenian community in Glendale and defend only the law abiding. In an attempt to associate doctors Balekian and Oz, Brotman went on to tell a narrative about a recent Dr. Oz controversy, claiming “it felt like the first arrow of an attack on the Armenian community.” The only thing Brotman’s broad-jump stretch between doctors fell short of was his feigned concern for the Armenian community.
Brotman’s word vomit tells us more than just about his underhanded character that insults the same residents he represents and who pay his stipend with tax dollars. Brotman is reciting the propaganda formula used by his associates “The Glendale Extremist Network” (a radical “progressive” political group that engages in character smears and some local vandalism). The group, who “endorses” Brotman, have even called loyal moderate Democrats “MAGA” hoping to scare voters from selecting them.

Honestly, you don’t need to hear Dan Brotman’s vicious name calling and bullying of women to know what he’s about. You don’t need to judge him by the extremists associated with him either. Merely looking at your utility bill will give you reason enough to reject failed incumbent Councilmember, Dan Brotman (and his cloned protege, Alek Bartrosouf).
