Dan Brotman is doubling down on his disrespect for women for the cause of his political slate. At the March 31, 2026 Glendale City Council meeting, Susan Wolfson addressed the council about Dan Brotman’s ugly comments belittling candidate Beth Brooks days earlier at “No Kings” rally at City Hall. Brotman had resorted to childish name calling at a public event calling Brooks “crazy pants Beth Brooks”; a childish jab at her appearance and attempt to belittle her intellect. Public reaction to Brotman’s behavior was overwhelmingly negative.
But Dan Brotman didn’t learn from the misstep. When confronted by City Clerk candidate, and former Recreation and Parks Commission President, Susan Wolfson, about his reprehensible behavior, Brotman laughed at her. Brotman’s disrespect for Wolfson was so obvious that it shocked people in Council Chambers and another council member had to ask for calm in the room. Susan acknowledged Brotman’s mocking and demeaning behavior and carried on with her comments, calling upon Councilmember, Elen Asatryan, and current City Clerk, Suzie Abajian, as “elected women,” to not remain silent about Brotman’s misogynistic abuse. Asatryan offered little, careful not to name Brotman, and claimed ignorance of the incident. City Clerk Abajian continued to remain silent about Brotman’s abusive rhetoric – which she witnessed at the rally having spoken there shortly before him.
Both Asatryan and Abajian brag about being (so-called) “women’s advocates,” but offered Wolfson little to nothing, placing their political slate over their integrity.
The Asatryan/Abajian silence was deafening, revealing their hypocritical character. Asatryan’s claim that she was unaware of the incident is HIGHLY unlikely. She was present at the event and was named specifically in Brotman speech that was turned into a campaign event for their “progressive” candidate slate.
Background: Recently Susan Wolfson was interviewed by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party for endorsement. The universal question they asked all city candidates was: “Do you consider yourself a Progressive Democrat or a Moderate Democrat?” Susan Wolfson answered “Moderate Democrat.” For this, she was flatly rejected among the delegates, receiving 0% of their votes. One delegate, Hans Johnson of East Area Progressive Democrats became aggressively confrontational during the zoom meeting (for which they turned off Wolfson’s camera). Hans Johnson is also the individual who introduced Dan Brotman to make his rally speech at City Hall.
After Wolfson’s comments, Brotman attempted a “gotcha” moment saying that Wolfson requested his endorsement a day before the rally. What Brotman didn’t reveal was that Wolfson, in the spirit of non-partisanship, asked for endorsements from ALL of City Council. Brotman’s lie of omission was confusing for some but didn’t escape those who already knew the truth. And that he did so demonstrates that he was willing to mislead the public while further belittling a woman.
I was already in favor of electing Susan Wolfson to be our new Glendale City Clerk. After Dan Brotman’s doubling down on disrespect for women, and Suzie Abajian’s silence about it, my support for Wolfson is solidified.
I can not support anyone who rants about mistreatment of women as political pandering only, yet remains silent as they are mistreated.
The way Dan Brotman treated Beth Brooks and Susan Wolfson is simply another form of misogyny against two strong women who are brave enough to participate in our system.
I WILL be voting for Susan Wolfson for Glendale City Clerk.
