City Seeking Qualified Applicants to Operate Alex Theatre
GLENDALE, CA – The historic Alex Theatre is a world-class performing arts and entertainment center, serving as an anchor for the City’s vibrant Downtown and Art & Entertainment Districts. On December 16, 2020, the City of Glendale issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking qualified applicants for this cultural venue’s operation and management. The submission deadline for the RFP is 5:00 pm on Thursday, March 18, 2021.

The City’s schedule for the selection of a qualified operator is as follows:
- January 28, 2021: Deadline to RSVP for Pre-Bid Conference.
- February 1-2 2021: Pre-Bid Conference and site tour held from 10 am to Noon.
- February 4, 2021: Written Questions Due.
- February 11, 2021: Responses to Written Questions Issued.
- March 18, 2021: Proposal Submissions due by 5:00 pm.
As part of this RFP, the City is seeking an established organization to maintain the financial stability and sustainability of the Alex Theatre’s operations, ensure that the venue is available, accessible, and affordable for use by local community organizations and non-profits, and attract top-quality entertainment clients, events, and performances.
The RFP welcomes proposals from various qualified respondents, including professional venue operators, prominent non-profit organizations, for-profit venue management companies, and potential university or government partners. A successful applicant will have experience operating, maintaining, and managing a theatre, be familiar with historic resources, demonstrate financial stability, and be community-focused.
